Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have launched a manhunt for the main accused Vidyasagar Rajbhar in connection to the double murder case which took place on Saturday night. On the double murder of well known installation artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer, the Mumbai Police arrested four suspects who have told that Vidya was the one who ordered the killings.
The investigators zeroed on Vidyasagar after the four arrested suspects have leaked his name to the Police. “We killed them under orders of Vidya,” he told a TV channel while seated in a police vehicle upon his detention. Asked how the killings were executed, he said, “We used handkerchiefs soaked in a chemical.”
The main accused Vidya was a resident of Shamsi Housing Society in suburban Kandivali (West). He is on the run currently and the Mumbai Police has requested the UP Special Task Force to be sent to Varanasi where the accused is expected to be.
“The questioning of the four detainees, including the one held today in Varanasi, led to the information that the murder took place at the behest of a person called Vidyasagar Rajbhar,” a senior police officer, who is part of the probe team, said.
On Saturday night, the day they were believed to have been killed, it was Vidyasagar who had called Hema on her mobile at 7.30 pm, the officer said. Vidyasagar’s arrest will help the police join the missing dots, he also added.
On Saturday night, Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer were found murdered and their bodies were found in a drain packed in cardboard boxes after the Police were alerted by a passerby. She is in a bitter court battle after her divorce with her husband, another well known artist.
