12 Year Old Muslim Girl Wins Bhagwad Gita Competition – ISKCON

Mumbai: A 12-year-old girl named Maryam Asif Siddiqui from Muslim community without any religious barriers stood first in the Bhagwad Gita competition.

Breaking religious barriers, the Muslim girl won in the competition on understanding the holy book Bhagwad Gita organized by International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The organization conducted this competition to around 195 schools from which 4,500 students came out for participation.

It is clear that a competition brings out the calibre of a person. In the same way, here also the participants were tested on their knowledge in understanding the holy book Bhagwad Gita.

One among the participants was Maryam. She is the one who studied Bible, taking classes on Quran and now stood first in understanding Bhagwad Gita.

Maryam is studying in 6th standard and her teacher told that a Gita competition is going on in the recent days. Her parents also accepted for this without any religious barrier.

She said, “I really like Gita. There were stories on how Krishna told Arjun how to live, speak to everyone, how to respect everybody. I liked all these things”.

For the victory, Muslim cleric Maulana Umer Ahmed Ilyasi said, “It is a matter of joy that a Muslim girl has won the first prize. Whether it is Gita or Quran, these are religious scriptures. Religion unites and not divides”.

Finally Maryam is blessed with the first position in the competition and now became famous for her efforts without any religious barriers.
