Punjab Govt Suspends Nanak Shah Fakir Guru Nanak Film for 2 Months

Punjab: Government banned Nanak Shah Fakir, a Guru Nanak life story based film for 2 months due to scenes against Sikh tenets. The movie is set to release on 17th April, 2015 but postponed now.

Punjab Government has banned screening of film “Nanak Shah Fakir” for 2 months. The movie is about life and teachings of Guru Nanak that is scheduled to be released on 17th April 2015. But state government suspended screening of movie for scenes against Sikh tenets.

As per state government statement, there are complaints against movie that it has scenes against religious beliefs and Maryada of Sikh community. So, the suspension on movie came into force which is applied to all forms of public and private distribution. Finally the state government banned movie across country.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Radical Sikh organizations have demanded government to ban film and said that film makers of movie represented the Guru Nanak and his family in human form, which was against Sikh beliefs.

The State government suspended screening of movie for 2 months under sub-section (1) of section 6 of the Punjab Cinemas Act, 1952. SGPC and radical Sikh organizations are happy for country wide ban on movie. Filmmaker Harider Sikka said he was “Unhappy that the people of Punjab, who worship Guru Nanak Dev, will be deprived of watching film because of three Sikh radical groups”.
