Two-Year-Old Indian Girl Sets National Archery Record

Dolly Shivani Cherukuri from Vijaywada has set a national archery record as per the records registered in India.

Two-year-old Dolly Shivani Cherukuri from Vijaywada, AP became the youngest Indian to score more than 200 points at a trial event on Tuesday.

Press Trust of India reported that this is a record for a girl who is going to turn three in the next week.

She have scored more than 200 points for firing 36 arrows at a target 5m away, then at a target 7m away.

She made a miracle by making the total to 388 points.

News agency AFP quoted Mr. Satyanarayana, “When we came to know that the baby was on her way we decided to mould her as an archer”. It seems that he runs an archery academy in Vijayawada.

“The preparations started when she was in the womb itself,” he added.

It is said that the archeries used are specially made with carbon for children. Toddlers will be trained on lighter bows. Mr. Abrol said that Dolly’s bow is also made like that.

“You can’t put too much pressure on children, they can be trained for a maximum of two or three hours a day,” he said. “But Dolly comes from a family of archers so she’s capable of a lot.”

Dolly is honoured with a gold medal and certificate after the archery competition.

“My daughter achieved the feat we have been dreaming… I can’t express in words how happy my family is,” Mr Satyanarayana told PTI.

They told that the parents of Shivani are trying to get her name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
