The Indian telecom minister has directed that panic button and GPS is a must in all cell phones for crisis management.
As part of Digital India call by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Indian Telecom minister has set new norms for all the silicon manufacturers. From the next year beginning all the smartphones that are sold in India should possess a panic button for emergency calling. The number is not yet declared by the government of India. Most probably it will be either 5 or 9. The emergency helpline number 112 is also in consideration.
The government also declared that GPS will be made compulsory in all the mobiles, as to track the caller. this is mandatory from the year 2018 start. These two norms which are made mandatory by the Indian Telecom ministry has come as part of the safety measures with the advancements in the technology.
Earlier SOS was the emergency help app that was installed in the mobiles. The decision is welcomed by the many tech experts as it provides safety for all. Women, children and almost every needful individual can get the help in time. The gadget makers of all the companies have to include a software as per the Indian government norms. Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iOS have to include the necessary app in their software from now on. this may slightly increase the prices of the gadgets. GPS has become a common feature almost in all the smartphones.
Apple is known for its policies to co-operate according to the different countries prevailing laws and policies. Android has to handle as it just makes it is largely used OS and with common features, unlike Apple iOS which is customizable. So all the smart gadgets from now will contain a Panic button and the GPS facility.
