The Punjab Health Department has decided to observe the No Tobacco Day on 1st November in an effort to reduce the usage of Tobacco in the state. Even very young people in the state are addicted to the usage of these dreadful products.

No Tobacco Day: “Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has issued directions to all the Deputy Commissioners in this regard,” Punjab Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani said in an official release here on Monday.

The State Health Minister of Punjab Surjit Kumar Jyani said, the aim of this campaign is to reduce tobacco and nicotine users in the state to prevent and control the non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular and cancer diseases.

He also mentioned that the usage of cigarettes, tobacco, and e-cigarettes are banned in Punjab. As per the report of a study carried out by website, the extent of drug addiction in the state of Punjab is in a stage of alarming.

As a prevention step, the state government has introduced the No Tobacco Day in the state and brings the awareness among the people and also how it lead to the health hazard. The border areas of Punjab, the rate of heroin consumption among 15 years to 25 years old are as high as 73 percent, and in the remaining parts, i.e., in other rural areas, there is 75 percent throughout the region.

This is not a simple issue just to take it with ease, but it is a matter which leads to death. According to the Department of Social Security Development of Women and Children, for every 63 percent of rural households in the state have on drug addict in the family. There is at least one drug addict overdose case every week in the region.

The banning of cigarette sales in the state is the first step in that direction. The government also launched the special awareness campaigns in all areas of Punjab from 1st November to 7th November. Food Safety Officers also announced to a strict ban on Gutkha and Pan Masala as per the Supreme Court.
