Hyderabad: Osmania University research team and Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) of Hyderabad have discovered significant uranium reserves in Srisailam forests.
City based Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) and research team of Osmania University has revealed uranium reserves in a joint research at an area of 45 sq km around Srisailam of Kadapa basin in Andhra Pradesh. The team discovered expensive radioactive uranium reserves at Chennakesavula Gutta and Padra villages by using latest equipment’s. As per research team quality of the precious minerals in both regions is very high grade of and even equivalent to that of Canada and Australia.
Earlier AMD team has discovered precious minerals reserves in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states including Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Guntur, Nalgonda, and Kadapa districts and now Chennakesavula Gutta and Padra are the latest additions to the immense uranium resources in the two Telugu states.
As per officials Andhra Pradesh state has about five lakh tonnes of uranium reserves mostly in Kadapa basin and Telangana state has about one lakh tonnes of the nuclear resource. Both states together contribute around 25% of India’s total uranium reserves.
The Uranium Corporation of India has set up a uranium mining mill at Tummalapalle village in Kadapa district and planned for same project at Lambapur Peddagattu region in Nalgonda district. And now as per latest discovery a mega nuclear power project planned in Srikakulam district and Srisailam reserves are expected to be one of the main sources for India’s N-Power plants.
