India: Ace tennis star Sania Mirza is recommended for India’s prestigious and highest award in sports Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna by the Union Ministry.
Wimbledon 2015 doubles winner Sania Mirza Indian ace tennis star is set to be awarded with popular Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the Union Sports Ministry. This is the highest award which is given to sports persons.
According to sources, sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal has suggested the Hyderabad-born athlete Sania Mirza name for highest award for sports persons Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. She was one among the 12 contenders in race for the prestigious award. Sports ministry has forwarded the Indian ace tennis star Sania Mirza name to the award committee.
A 28-year old is the first Indian women who achieved the number one ranking in doubles along with partner Martina Hingis. The Hyderabad-born athlete has won a number of tournaments in her career, she also honoured with the Arjun award in 2004 and she was also awarded with fourth highest civilian honour-Padma Shri.
Indian ace Tennis star Sania Mirza has also own the mixed doubles titles at Austrlia Open in 2009, French Open in 2012 and US open in 2014. Her name for highest award in sports category was taken among squash player Dipika Pallikal, discus throwers Vikas Gowda and Seema Punia, hockey captain Sardar Singh, and shuttler Kidambi Srikanth.
