New Delhi, June 26: Satnam Singh Bhamara, 7’2” basketball player became the first Indian to be drafted in NBA (National Basketball Association) league, picked by Dallas Mavericks in the 2015 NBA draft.

Satnam Singh Bhamara is an Indian basketball player, from a village in Punjab’s Barnala district. 19 years-old Punjabi fellow picked up by Dallas Maversick for NBA 2015 League and his is the first India origin basketball player to feature in NBA League.

Satnam Singh, who has 7’2” height, is one of the players among 91 players who nominated for 2015 NBA Draft. Out of 91 players, 48 are selected from colleges and post-graduate institutions and remaining 43 are international players.

Satnam Singh is from a village in Punjab, when he was 12 years he was sent to a government-funded basketball academy, later he moved to United States in September 2010. He has spent last five years along with the players from 39 countries for developing his game as part of a scholarship program between IMG Academy and Reliance.

Satnam Singh was picked up by the Dallas Maverick as a 52pick in the NBA Draft, and at the press meet conference, owner of Dallas Maverick, Mark Cuban welcomed Satnam Singh and says that, now they have a billion Maverick fans.

In 2011 year, at the age of 16, Satnam became the youngest player to represent India at the 26th Asian Basketball Championship at Wuhan in China. Earlier, Bhullar who born in Toronto became the first player of Indian origin to play, now Satnam Singh became second Indian origin to play in NBA and he is the first Indian who picked up for NBA draft league.
