Scientist P M Bhargava Returns his Padma Bhushan to President

P M Bhargava who got Padma Bhushan award in 1986 has given it back to President Pranab Mukherjee. He is a well-known scientist and founder as well as director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. This award has been returned to the President because, he protests against BJP who is ruling India today.

The award has been sent to President on November 6th by Dr. P M Bhargava along with a letter addressing the president. Bhargava’s letter contains many reasons explaining his decision of giving back the award. He said that he is very regretted writing this letter of returning the award that he got authority of receiving in 1986 from President of India, Shri Giani Zail Singh.

He also added in the letter that the Padma Bhushan award was very dear to him and he expressed his concern on the current situation in the country i.e. socio – politico. He told that the BJP has abandoned the road of democracy in the country and driving to make the country as a Hindu religious autocracy like Pakistan.

“BJP having the leadership of RSS that is fully dedicated to an ideology of Hindutva, which I find divisive,” Bhargava said. According to the article 51 of the constitution, citizen’s duties have developed the humanism, scientific temper and spirit of reform and inquiry, he pointed.

“RSS and BJP are doing things against the grain of scientific irritation, recently Mohan Bhagwat gave the statement is the example of this issue that marriage is a contract if the wife agrees with being a housewife or not work outside.

He also pointed that he found the BJP government has the least knowledge and least concerned regarding science. The conservatism of religious climate is appearing at this time, it is becoming a big issue and major blockage for the functioning of science.
