Srikakulam: Engineering Colleges got more admissions this year when compared with previous one. The admissions increased rapidly in all colleges from all districts for this year academic session.
As per latest news, because of State bifurcation, admissions process started earlier this year by June itself. This is the main reason of increasing admissions in Srikakulam Engineering colleges. Eight Engineering colleges in Srikakulam districts have 2,688 seats and out of them 1,959 were filled in both phases.
Last year, only 1,585 seats were filled as many students chosen private universities and colleges located in Telangana region. With availability of fees reimbursement, many students picked local colleges after bifurcation. Aditya Institute of Technology and management (AITAM-Tekkali) and GMR institute of Technology could get 100 percent admissions under convener quota.
Each Engineering college has 588 seats in all branches to be filled. As per latest reports, 378 students joined in Sri Sivani College and Sri Venkateswara Engineering College could get 294 admissions in current year. SSIT (294), SISTAM (252) and Vaishnavi College of Engineering (168) got more students compared with last year and make them financially workable this year.
Only one student joined in Prajna Engineering College, leading to winding up of many departments in the institution. GMR Institute of Technology has reportedly collected up to Rs. 3 lakh as donation for each seat apart from the regular fees. AITAM has reportedly fixed Rs.1 lakh as donation for the payment seats.
