Stampede- Four injured during Naval SSR Recruitment in Mumbai Malad

It all turned out into a panic situation where the stampede happened in Mumbai’s Malad Naval base recruitment. Five aspirants for naval recruitment exam suffered injuries. This incident happened this early morning when rushing to the gate for being first in the queue. This recruitment is for Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) post.

Nearly 7,000 youth seeking employment in the Indian Navy had attended at INS Hamla Naval base, which is on the western shore of Mumbai. For the recruitment, there were no proper arrangements facilitated for the aspirants. Besides that there is only one gate for the crowd to enter in.

This stampede happened when the gate was opened. The aspirant’s had rushed in with full force at a time. For controlling them, the police has used batons which resulted in the stampede. As a result of lathi charge, the crowd got panic and rushed on to each other.

The Naval Defence spokesperson stated that “this incident has happened because of the huge overwhelming crowd who appeared and confusion of the crowd control early in the morning lead to the stampede. Quickly the situation is handled efficiently by the local police and Naval officials. We are expecting a good response from the volunteers.” 

Calling this as the failure of Officials, for no proper arrangements and facilities. They failed in deploying required crowd control units by estimating the number of aspirants.
