Universities Asked To Include Photograph, Aadhar In Degree Certificates
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities and educational institutions to introduce identification mechanisms like student’s photograph and Aadhaar number beside security features in degrees and certificates awarded by them.
The University Grants Commission Secretary said that mark sheets and certificates with security features would help in verification and prevent duplication. “Having security features in the mark sheets and certificates issued by varsities are useful for verification and curbing duplication. At the same time, they help in introducing uniformity. And transparency within and across the system of higher education in the country”. UGC secretary, J.S. Sandhu said in a communication to universities.
“You are directed to include identification mechanisms like the photograph and Unique ID/ Aadhaar number in students’ certificates. And as well as the mode of delivery (regular, part-time or distance),” he said.

In a communication to varsities, Sandhu directed them to include mechanisms like the students’ photographs and unique ID or Aadhar numbers in the certificates of students.
“You are also requested to inscribe the name of the institution in which a student has enrolled. As well as the mode of delivery (regular, part-time or distance),” Sandhu said.
More recently, the UGC released a list of fake institutions and the universities that have been operating in the country. Leading the group were nine universities in the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi with 66 fake colleges which offered technical courses. There has a total of 279 such institutes listed.
