At least 11 personnel were killed and 19 went missing when Heavy Rains triggered landslips and flash floods in Uttarakhand on Friday.

The residents of Uttarakhand state can guess little relief from the rough weather as IMD has issued bright warnings of Heavy Rains to very heavy rainfall in 8 districts, in the next 48 hours. The normal disaster has inflicted maximum injury on the Basted village, where at least 30 people are feared to be still trapped inside the debris. Reports suggest that as many as 60 houses were compressed in the ceaseless rainfall and villagers have lost over 200 farm animals in the resulting floods.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat have expressed their grief over the loss of life. NDRF teams have been rushed to the affected areas and additional teams have also been kept on alert. Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked officials to camp in the affected areas and ensure that there is no dearth of the ration.

The government of Uttarakhand has been asked to provide swift assistance for rescue and rehabilitation. The relatives of those missing should not lose hope and we firmly stand by the people of Chamoli and Pithoragarh, they remain in our prayers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressed grief at the loss of life and damage caused by a cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli and Pithoragarh district.
