Yahoo Shut Down its Messenger App on August 5th

Yahoo Inc, American multinational company has announced the shutting down of its Messenger from August five this year.

The company has asked all its users to transition to the new version introduced last year. The old Yahoo Messenger will no longer work from August 5 this year.

“In December of 2015, we announced a brand new Yahoo Messenger for mobile, the Web and in Yahoo Mail on the desktop, built on a new modern platform. This complete revamp brings users an incredibly fast, beautiful and smart way to send – and unsent – messages, photos and animated GIFs in 1:1 and group conversations,” Yahoo chief architect Amotz Maimon said while explaining the company’s move.

The app was introduced in 1998 as “Yahoo Pager” but later, Yahoo revamped it with a redesigned and cross-platform version in December last year. The new Messenger is available the App Store and Google Play.

The company will now focus on other core products such as Mail, Search, Tumblr, News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyles. The company will also shut down its personalized widget service which provides links to similar stories to the reader Yahoo recommends on September 1.

We intend to continue our focused efforts on the new Messenger, with a goal of delivering the best experience to our users.
