Mumbai: 1993 Mumbai blast accused Yakub Memon applied for another mercy plea today against his death sentence. Maharashtra state Govt approached Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to dispose it as soon as possible.
Yakub Memon, Common name in today’s news. He is the one who was involved in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. He is going to be hanged on 30th July, 2015, where he turns 53 on the same day. Yes the supreme court decided the execution on Memon’s birthday at Nagpur Central jail.
Memon has applied for mercy plea to president of India previously which was rejected. Today, 23-7-2015, he is again going to apply for new mercy plea. The state government officials wants to dispose Memon’s petition as quickly as possible. In this process they approached Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and even central government too.
Now it is time to wait and see if the execution will be carried out as scheduled or will get late for waiting on mercy plea. The petition will be sent to governor on thursday and to central on the next day. Mostly the central government need to decide about the petition.
CPI(M) Demands to Accept Memon’s Mercy Petition:
CPI (M) demands the government to accept Memon’s mercy petition on tuesday. Party says that Yakub memon chose to surrender and cooperate with Indian authorities and so his petition need to be accepted.
The communist party reminded the Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case where the convicts were subjected to life. “Regarding the 1993 terrorists blasts exact criminals who are responsible must be punished” says the party.
