Tamil Nadu, July 3: Tamil Nadu government is going to set up separate rooms in bus terminals for lactating mothers, and it will be launched on 1st August, 2015 for World Breastfeeding Week.

Tamil Nadu state government chief minister Jayalalithaa announced new scheme on Friday for Women, that is government will offer the special rooms for lactating mothers to breastfeed their babies in privacy at bus terminals which are run by state transport corporation and municipalities. This scheme will be launched during the World Breastfeeding Week which is beginning on August 1st, 2015.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that, Facilities will be provided at bus terminals for lactating mothers who travel for work or some other reason to help them breastfeed to their babies. These rooms will come up in bus terminal cities, those in municipalities and in terminals attached to bus depots.

In 2014, Tamil Nadu government has launched an innovative scheme a milk bank at Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Chennai to ensure that the babies get ideal nutrition from mothers who donate their milk.

This year the theme of World Breastfeeding Week is “Breastfeeding and Work — Let’s Make it Work,” is about the difficulties faced by working women in lactating their babies.
