Many promises were made in the DMK’s 2016 Election manifesto if they are elected for ruling the state for the next 5 years.

On Sunday, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party chief M Karunanidhi revealed the future plans of the party if they are elected to rule. Some of the major decisions were announced which are public welfare oriented schemes. The complete abolition of liquor to make Tamilnadu liquor free state is one of the major decision announced in the DMK’s 2016 Election Manifesto.

Apart from the above the party also announced some of the daily life affecting factors like the reduction of milk cost by Rs.7 per liter supplied by the State government’s dairy Aavin. The main sector wise highlights of the declared DMK’s 2016 Elections manifesto are:

AGRICULTURE & FARMERS –

Separate agricultural budget in the State’s finance budget along with Separate ministry for irrigation.                                                                                                                 Minimum supporting price for paddy will be increased.
Agricultural training in organic farming will be introduced under the scheme Nammazhvar.
Sethu Samudram Canal Project works will be revived as per the present demanding situations.
With an estimate cost of Rs.2,000 crores, newly 200 check dams will be constructed to prevent flooding.
Three-phased power connection for agriculture farmers.

EDUCATION & STUDENTS –

New Medical colleges in districts where there are none
College students education loans to be written off.
Free 3G/4G Internet usage up to 10GB download facility for students along with the supply of laptops or tablets.
Free milk scheme to be supplied in the mornings to elementary schools students in addition to the Nutritious afternoon meal scheme.

EMPLOYMENT & EMPLOYEES –

Jobs for 100,000 people to be recruited every year through employment exchanges
Setting up of employment camps in all districts.
All vacant posts in schools to be filled.
TASMAC employees to be given alternative employment due to the complete abolition of Liquor from the state.
Maternity leaves to be increased to nine months.
Setting up of pay commission for state government employees to bring their salaries equivalent to the central government staff.
New pension scheme will be drafted for state government employees and teachers.
Preference in government jobs to first graduate in each family.
A new state law for Additional 50 days work along with 100 days will be provided under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGREGA) and the workers to be used only for agricultural works during crop seasons.

GENERAL PUBLIC WELFARE SCHEMES were given a high priority in the DMK’s 2016 election manifesto in order to attract a common man –

As a part of slum free Tamil Nadu, Rs.3.0 lakhs subsidy for the construction of concrete houses from thatched houses for low-income groups.                                                           Stamp charges for transfer of property between blood relatives will be reduced.         Granting of permission within 60 days for construction of houses, factories, offices, multi-storied residential buildings and commercial buildings, and for rationalisation of fee for approval.
Law to implement Liquor Prohibition strictly in the state.
Efforts to revive Jallikattu.
Smartphones at subsidised rates to the poor.
All lakes/water bodies to be distilled at an estimated cost of Rs.10,000 crores.
Desalination plants will be set up to convert sea water to drinking water in coastal areas.
Tamil will be introduced as an official language in the Central Government offices too. Tamilnadu state-run milk dairy, Aavin milk price to be reduced by Rs 7 per litre.     Rs.60,000 assistance to women for marriage.                                                               Smart ration cards to be issued within 15 days for those who do not have.
Anna Unavagam to be established in place of Amma Unavagam (Canteens).
20 kg free rice per month scheme to the poor.
Uninterrupted electricity power supply.
Monthly electricity bills payment scheme will be introduced replacing once in two months meter readings.
Powerloom to get 750 units of power free.                                                                      Free bus passes for those over 60 years of age citizens.
Haphazardly raised bus fares for state government buses throughout Tamilnadu during the AIADMK rule will be rationalized and uniform fares based on distance will be fixed.         Metro rail project would be extended up to Mamallapuram and another line up to Sriperumbudur through Irunkattukottai and Oragadam industrial towns would be covered.

INDUSTRIES & COMPANIES –

Leather park will be established in Chennai, Dindigul, and Vellore areas.
Industrial corridors will be built in Madurai-Tuticorin and Chennai-Hosur belts.
Rs. 1 lakh funding for entrepreneurs.
Measures to increase the electricity production.
Single window clearance to be brought for establishing new industries just in 100 days.

LAW & ORDER –

Lok Ayukta to be established in Tamil Nadu.
All Defamation cases against Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project protesters and journalists to be withdrawn.                                                                                                             Setting up of the welfare board for journalists.

Setting up of 4th police Commission.

Proposal for creating four Regional Courts of Appeal and urge court of appeal of the southern region be established in Tamil Nadu.

Steps to be taken to revive Legislative Council.
Grievance redressal meetings at all assembly constituencies once in three months.

Legislation for establishing Water Management Authority for repairing all water pipe lines, tanks and reservoirs across Tamil Nadu in order to prevent and remove encroachments.

Apart from the local developments the DMK’s 2016 election manifesto also concentrated at National level NEW DEVELOPMENTS like :

Efforts will be taken for setting up the second space research centre and Rocket Launching Centre of ISRO in Kulasekarapattinam in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
Efforts for setting up of the India Space Liquid Propulsion System.

However, the common man aims at the growth and better living and the DMK’s 2016 Election Manifesto seems to lure the public in that aspect. The Tamilnadu assembly elections will be held on May 16.
