Mumbai: Air India today has launched an investigation into the accident which took place on Wednesday evening at the Mumbai Airport. Subramaniam, a 1984 batch officer in the technical services division of Air India was reportedly on a routine check of the aircraft AI-619 which was departing from Mumbai to Hyderabad.

The Airbus 319 registered with Air India as VT-SCQ was about to depart from Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 8:45 PM. The push back operation was started at around 8:30 PM. While the technician gives a green signal for starting up of Engines, the pilots look around for any objects close to the engines before starting them as they have a lot of suction power.

In this incident, the panel formed will investigate whether the pilots looked around for any third party objects or whether the pilots mistook the technician’s green signal to start the engine or even suicide or murder is looked into by the police.

The body was later removed from the engine, but postmortem could not be carried out as the whole body was crushed into juice. It was a very tragic accident. Some remaining parts were removed like stomach, bones, liver.

A case of accidental death has been booked and a police investigation will be carried out. Parallel to this investigation, a panel formed by Air India will also be investigating the incident. A plane later took the passengers from Mumbai to Hyderabad at 11:45 PM.
