Nagpur, July 24: FDA Tobacco inspection bagged Rs 3 lakh worth products in Nagpur for Kharra Free Maharashtra on ban of Gutka, Kharra and Pan Masala in State.
Recently, State government has passed a rule for renewal of ban on Gutka, Kharra and Pan Masala. The govt termed it as “Kharra Free Maharashtra” and Harshdeep Kamble, FDA Commissioner guided all employees in the Food and Drugs Administration division to conduct raids from each and every corner including all cities in the State. FDA Tobacoo inspection is successfully finished and seized lots of items.
Yesterday, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials raided several places in the city and seized Rs 3 lakh worth of tobacco products mainly included gutka, kharra and pan masala. 70 members are grouped into 52 and the task has begun at sharp 9 AM yesterday. Earlier, from July 17 only, Maharashtra State government banned scented tobacco, pan masala, gutka and kharra which cause destruction of human health.
In the State, around 215 pan stalls at various places like Medical Square, Sakkardara square, ST bus stand, Baidyanath square, Mominpura, Jaripatka, Santra market, Kachipura, Ramdaspeth, Telephone exchange square, etc. are included in the raid list by officials. Shivaji Desai, the FDA Joint Commissioner said that the raid took place in around 144 stalls and Rs 1,56,626 worth amount items are seized by officials.
In Kamgar Nagar, Kharra will be prepared locally, officials didn’t leave this place also. From this place, Nagpuri kharra, Golden Yug, Rajnigandha, Janam, Baba Black are seized counting to an amount of Rs 1,44,67. Government Dental College dean Dr Vinay Hazarey, Doctors from the Kalmegh Dental College, VSPM Dental College spoke regarding this to the reporters that as this is a huge operation, support members are called during this.
FDA joint commissioner (drugs) A V Giri, assistant commissioner Wakode, food inspectors from Aurangabad, Pune, Amravati, and Nagpur divisions are also included in the list. As the State’s capital city Nagpur is considered to be born place for tobacco, the raids are started here and are expected to take place among all other cities.
