Hyderabad: Long delayed Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Elections will be held before 15th December, 2015 as per deadline given by High Court.

The Hyderabad Court asked Telangana State government to conduct GHMC elections by December 15 and also directed the govt to complete the restriction of wards and reservation process by October 31 and no extension permitted.

TRS government required more than six months’ time to hold the elections; the government claimed that GHMC is bigger than Singapore so it needs more time to conduct GHMC polls. But the bench Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti   Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar refused to give more time and directed the government to complete the delimitation of divisions and reservation of divisions to SC, ST and BC by October 31 and elections by December 15.

The High court has expressed annoyance over delay of holding elections; it was dealing with a public interest litigation filed by the Forum governance, challenging the inaction of the state government even after the expiry of the elected council of the GHMC. The City court ordered the government to conduct elections within 45 days after issuing a notification and publishing electoral rolls to the civic body.

The judges of city high court gave government time till 31st October to complete reorganization and reservation process of wards and directed to conduct elections within 45 days thereafter. Total process should be completed till December 15.
