Kerala: Union Health minister J.P Nadda said that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institutes will be set up in future at every state in a phased manner.

AIIMS like institution will be soon in Kerala as per the statements from Union Health minister J.P Nadda on Friday. He assured that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institutes will be set up in every state in a phased manner.

On Friday Mr. Nadda was at Government medical college in Tiruvanthapuram to lay the foundation stone for various projects such as Dental College and annexe women hostel buildings. During this meeting, union minister announced with State Health Minister V.S Sivakumar, that Kerala would be centre for AIIMS like institution in the near future.

Mr.Nadda said that making up shortage of human resources in health sector and at the same time maintaining quality of medical education is challenging task for union government. To tackle it, government has decided to establish AIIMS-like institution in every state in a phased manner.

To maintain World Health Organization, the country needed at least 14 lakh doctors. Now the country has doctor-population ratio of 1:1,000. There is shortage of 8 to 9 lakhs doctors and paramedics were also in short supply.

For Pragmatic Approach

Mr.Nadda said that government has taken pragmatic approach to manage shortage of human resources in health sector. It also discussed with Medical Council of India to maintain balance. Total 65% of premier educational institutions are situated in southern and western states across 6,640 districts.

400 districts did not have medical education institutions. Hence the government has decided to promote at least 100 district hospitals as medical colleges with 100 MBBS seats each. It was also looking to increase the utilization of information technology devices for the teaching of non-clinical subjects.
