Mr.Badal is on tour in villages of Muktsar and Fazilika districts in order to access the damage caused to crops due to hailstorm on Saturday. Due to this natural calamity, thousands of acres of ‘golden harvest’ have been ruined. He pointed that “It is unfortunate that thousands of acre of golden harvest (wheat) of the farmers have been ruined due to this natural calamity, which would further accentuate the miseries of the farmers. They were already reeling under a heavy debt,”

He said that the Central Government is to launch long term crop insurance policy terms to help farmers. He also said that the Centre appropriately rewards farmers for such heavy losses and union government should also launch a crop insurance scheme for farmers, so that their interest can be protected.

He also added that, “We are committed to help the farmers and no stone will be left unturned for this noble cause”. The NDA government is now looking forward to give relief norms to the distresses that farmers get for the crop damage due to natural calamities across the country. Now, farmers are eligible to get subsidy if 33% of their crop has been damaged, earlier the center is responsible only for 50% crop damage.
