Ranchi, June 22: Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesman MJ Akbar has nominated for Rajya Sabha seat from Jharkhand by central election committee.
Party president Amit Shah has decided that from Jharkhand veteran journalist MJ Akbar will be the party’s candidate for Rajya Sabha by poll which will be held on 2nd July, 2015.
The by-election from Jharkhand was demanded by the resignation of Kanwar Deep Singh of the Trinamool Congress party. The BJP took time before declaring its candidate, and there is a rumour that, it was a toss between party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain and former chief minister Arjun Munda.
Munda in a plan to participate in by-poll if BJP agrees, but president of party Amit Shah has decided that, MJ Akbar who joined in party in 2014 is nominated for the Jharkhand Rajya Sabha bypoll. Party is supposing that he has no problems to enter into Rajya Sabha as number favour the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the Jharkhand assembly. Earlier Akbar was in the congress as Lok Sabha MP from Kishanganj in Bihar during 1989-91.
Last date for filling of nomination is 22nd June, and last date for withdrawal of nomination is 25th June. The by poll will be held on 2nd July, 2015 and results will also out on same day. The time period for elected candidates is up to 7th July, 2016.
