Noida: A 12 member’s team from Amity International School, Noida, Uttar Pradesh has won the Space Settlement Design Competition 2015 conducted by NASA at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.

NASA has conducted a prestigious 20th International Space Settlement Design Competition with an aim to teach about industrial skills to students. The competition was held between 2-4 August at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. Four companies each with 50 participants from all over the world was participated in the final round of Space Settlement Design Competition.

From Asia a team of 12 members form Amity International School, Noida, Uttar Pradesh has also participated in final round competition to defeat with other teams of 50 participants each. The 12 member team has won the prestigious Annual International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISDCC).

According to the sources, the Amity team has designed two main settlements and four outlying settlements for an accommodation of nearly 24,000 and as well as for a temporary population of 3,000 on Mars. The team designed the settlements by using a transparent material “Aluminum Oxinitride “

The 12 member team from Amity is the only team to participate in the competition from Asia and the team is part of company named “Vulture Aviation” along with the teams from Latin America, North America and two teams from the UK and the USA. To design the settlements the team worked on all aspects including, automation, human engineering, marketing, operations, structural engineering and finance schedule and cost.

For the 24 years, the ISSDC has been teaching industrial skills to high school students, as part this, NASA conducts the competition every year to put high schools students in the shoes of aerospace industry engineers as they design a city in space for an accommodation for around 10,000 people.
