Amid a barrage of entrances for students passing out from Class 12 this year, for medical students, there is a bad news. The Supreme Court gave a green signal to National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEE), a common medical entrance test for admission to MBBS, BDS and PG courses, which was quashed in 2013.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) is not in favour of conducting the NEET this year due to time constraints and preparation problems. Showing dissatisfaction for the test, Dr. C V Bhirmanandham, vice chairman, MCI, told an English Daily: “The council has to issue fresh notifications if it wants to conduct the test for all states. Even if the notification comes before a week from the date of exam there is no enough time for students to preparation for the exam.

Based on the issue the MCI vice-chairman said, “We have to come to a consensus with the state and issue fresh notification before the exams in May. That looks impractical.”

However there are 400 medical institutions, with government and private, India lacks uniformity in taking the tests. It would not be easy for CBSE to organize the exam in May there would be “question papers, examination centres, and human resources to conduct the exam for several lakhs of medical aspirants,” Bhirmanandam said.
