Kerala, June 19: TASSAT satellite project (Trinity Adrak Student Satellite) – an innovative program by students and faculties of Trinity College scheduled to complete by 2018.

Trinity Engineering College, one of the most popular technological colleges in India started a really innovative project. Trinity Adrak Student Satellite or formally known as TASSAT, a miniature Cubesats or Nanosats type which is usually less mass and size. As per source, the project is scheduled to be finished by year 2018.

Trinity Engineering College strategic director Arun Surendran refers Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of Kerala as a natural space science city due to presence of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre or VSSC. He also told that the location is just perfect from every angle for such satellite programs.

From a recent visit to Nanyang Technological University, Trinity College committee got a complete idea on how to work-out on such projects. This was said by Surendran who also praised NTU for it continuous effort on launching satellites by making use of ISRO’s PSLV.

Trinity College is going to initiate similar projects like NTU in coming years which mainly include launching Cubesats and Nanosats type satellites intended for various purposes. This will be a team effort and if required, freshers will also include in the team to make it more effective.

Details on work and functionalities are not available. However source said, TASSAT satellite project is sponsored by an Oman-based Al Adrak company. This is the reason behind adopting name “Trinity Adrak Student Satellite”.

No matter what the circumstances are, Trinity is all set to provide its best for this project including labs, technology, expertise panel and of course time and cost. In his statement, Principal Mary Matilda said, “TASSAT will be a great boost for all the departments as it shall open doors for students in exploring new areas and sharpening their engineering skills to develop something unique.”
