Starting from next month, mobile users will be free by up to 23% on roaming call and 75% on local SMS. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and department of Telecommunication have cut ceiling traffis for national roaming calls and text messages and mandated operators. The changes will bring into effect from 1st May 2015 onwards.

TRAI also asked to carry special roaming tariff plan to activate offers. As per TRAI, the telecom operator can charge for STD calls on roaming to Rs.1.15 per minute from Rs. 1.5 and national SMS rate has been reduced to 38 paisa from Rs 1.5 per SMS.

The TARI set the ceiling rate for outgoing call at 80 paisa for minute from Rs. 1 for minute and for incoming calls on roaming will be charged as 45 paisa for minute earlier it was charged as 75 paisa for minute. A local SMS will be charged as 25 paisa for minute which was charged as Rs. 1 before.

“All subscribers will benefit from the reduced ceilings, competitive pricing below the new ceiling levels is expected,” the regulator said in statement.

With this changes millions of subscribes will be benefited who make calls and SMS while roaming outside their home circles. Currently the annual revenue through the mobiles is around Rs. 1 lakh crore and national roaming contributes around 5-6 percent to it, which is likely to get it.
