After days filled with darkness, there is some sigh of relief for people of Chennai as there has been substantial amount in decrease of water-levels of Adayar river. This has completely erased the large scale flooding threat.

Even though most of the forecast department said there will be rains in Chennai for next 24 hours, there is just drizzling and the huge threat just vanished away. NDRF Chief O.P.Singh said the situation has changed all of a sudden and water levels have receded.

We hear from sources that Chembarapakkam, Pondi and Puzhal lakes also got reduced and the flooding levels were reduced. The rescue and relief operations are still happening in full swing and the operations are forced to happen in full throttle as rains have stayed away.

The NDRF head further added that, “5 NDRF teams from Punjab have reached Chennai at 3am on Friday morning. We rescued around 10,000 people.” Few minutes back Southern Railway announced special trains from Chennai to Rameshwaram.
