Delhi, 11 May: Sanskrit news is to target a niche audience and Doordarshan is planning to broadcast weekend DD News bulletin to fulfill audience demand – DD India Report.

Especially to attract a tiny targeted audience or we can say a niche viewer group, Doordarshan is all set to start a weekend news section in Sanskrit language. The program soon to broadcast on DD News channel and will be timed around 30 minutes.

However, official declaration regarding dates is not disclosed yet. It is expected that DD National may launch it during end of June or July beginning. Official says, demand of such a program is venerable although from a small section of its audience. DD India is planning to fulfill this desire of its audience as soon as possible.

In his report, DG (News) spokesperson Akshay Kumar Rout told that, “DD News already has a five minute Sanskrit news bulletin ‘Varta’ which is telecast at 6.55 everyday. However it is felt those five minutes is not adequate and we are looking at creating a half an hour program for weekends, though a slot is yet to be decided.”

DD News Sanskrit weekend bulletin will feature news, reportage, features and discussions. Adding to this, the report also says that from the public response to this, DD India will consider its future strategy. As mentioned by Rout, based on its audience retort, more programs in Sanskrit may come in future.

Akshay Rout also added in his statement that, “We also propose to get in touch with academic institutions and other organisations which can help us in creating the best quality content in Sanskrit.”

This Sanskrit Weekend News program is still to be named and Doordarshan official is working on it. “Varta” program will definitely contribute to this new DD News Sanskrit, but to run it smoothly, Doordarshan may hire new professional in the coming days.
