AP state plans to offer 15 Mbps broadband connection with low amount Rs.150 to 12 million households under ongoing project National Optical Fiber.

Good news for Andhra Pradesh State people, the Chief Minister of AP Chandrababu Naidu plans to provide broadband connection to 12 million households in the state with peak speed of 15 Mbps. In the phase of Rs. 5000 crore national optical fibre project, AP government decided to offer the brand band connection with low amount of Rs. 150/- per month.

To link up 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across the country by December 2016, the state govt has asked the center to provide its share of funds from ongoing National Optical Fibre Project.

According to the official source, “AP state has asked the Centre for permission to execute the broadband project on its own. The state has requested for its share from funds earmarked by the centre for NOFN project in the state. The Telecom commission on January 7 accorded in- principle approval to the proposal with some riders”.

The AP state government has planned to deliver 10-15 Mbps broadband connections with certainly low amount Rs.150/- per month, where the private telecom operators offer such speed at around Rs.1000/- per month. With this speed user can easily download video file and full length standard Bollywood movie in about 6 minutes.

The Ap government had planned to deliver this connection with a budget of Rs.4913 crore in 5 years, but the centre government has allocated Rs. 1940 crore under the NOFN project. So, the state govt plans to arrange the reaming funds on its own under Andhra Pradesh Fibre Corporation.

The State has also planned for another entity called “Digital Andhra Corporation” using Public-Private-Partnership model, which is helpful in creating an ecosystem for broadband adoption.
