Aadhar card is a unique identity card given to the residents of India to recognise them all across the globe. It was introduced in the year 2009.Many of the issues concerned with the usage of Aadhar card were resolved and it is now used extensively for all the works to be done by the government.

Aadhar is now made mandatory for all the students seeking fellowships and scholarships in India. This is declared by the human resources development in India on Wednesday. It will be beneficial to all the students and they are provided with the required time gap to declare their Aadhar numbers.

This order issued on Wednesday includes scholarship and fellowship schemes implemented by university grants commission and all India council for technical education.

Through such schemes government is more connected to the people of the country. Many government policies reach the people of the country. It simplifies the work by making people produce less number of documents than actually required.

Students are given ample time to declare their Aadhar numbers. They can even enrol now and declare their Aadhar numbers before the end of June. It will be beneficial to them to get Aadhar cards and use it for other purposes.

The notification came into effect from Wednesday. Some states are excluded from the list such as Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir.

Some activists are against this and they criticised the beneficiaries of this policy as they are drawing many benefits from the state. They have highlighted the supreme court order in September last year that candidates without Aadhar must be given assistance.

The notification is actually declared during last year July but taken aback two months later.

The time lapse for issuing the fellowships will be reduced if the students produce Aadhar card.

Besides JRF, 17 other fellowships schemes are included such as GATE, the Emeritus fellowship, the post doctorial fellowship for SC/ST candidates. PG scholarship for university rank holder, post graduate scholarship for single girl child and other UGC scholarships also made Aadhar card mandatory.

This is a plan implemented by the government to link Aadhar numbers with the bank accounts. Some regional officers are also appointed to help the students get their Aadhar cards. This plan will eradicate corruption to a large extent. Appointing regional officials is a must for all the colleges affiliated to the universities. The officials function under the state government.UGC will look after the progression of the work.
